This is the last photograph I have of myself with my daughter, Emily, who died from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) when she was 19. Rachel Sumaria: Artist Biography
Rachel is a contemporary artist based in the Cotswolds who started painting at the Cheltenham School of Fine Art after her daughter died aged nineteen. She found she loved it and it provided a form of therapy. She is influenced by her ethnically diverse family, her 10 years living in Kenya and her Indian connections. All have offered her interesting subjects to paint in different styles. One large project was to paint 14 huge oil paintings to adorn the marquee at her eldest daughter’s wedding. Each one was based on an Indian Mughal painting from the 15th to 19th century. Her own home is filled with modern portraits of striking muses from around the world and landscape and wildlife paintings from various safaris in Africa.
